ABOUT AIXTRON
Our csr responsibility as a company
We know that social, environmental and economic activities and performance influence each other and have tangible interactions. As a supplier to a pioneering key industry, we conduct our business prudently, responsibly and with the interests of all stakeholders in mind. Our efforts are therefore aimed at a future for our company, our customers and society that is shaped by sustainability. This is reflected in our CSR policy which sets out guidelines for responsible and sustainable business activity.
Sustainability is much more than mere compliance with ordinances and regulations. It must be the expression of a constant and serious effort to permanently improve our economic, ecological and social aspects. We also want our employees to be motivated to work for a responsible company and develop products and technologies that can help change the world.
AIXTRON's deposition equipment - a global leader in the semiconductor industry - is used to manufacture high-performance devices for electronic and opto-electronic applications based on compound and organic semiconductor materials.
We can exert a particular influence through the design and development of our products. Through our forward-looking technologies, but also through the use of Industry 4.0 processes, we contribute to a significant reduction in the energy consumption of our customers' products and their customers. For example, power devices (III-V semiconductors) made of gallium nitride (GaN) with large bandgap, such as those manufactured on our equipment, require significantly less energy for the same or higher performance compared to conventional silicon-based power chips.
We are also continuously reducing the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes and building technology by using energy and other natural resources consciously and responsibly.
Climate protection plays an important role for AIXTRON. We attach great importance to keeping the ecological footprint left by our business activities as small as possible and to minimizing the release of climate-damaging CO2 emissions.
AIXTRON stands for energy-efficient technologies worldwide: with our products and solutions, we contribute to greater energy efficiency in numerous key industries and thus take an active role in reducing avoidable greenhouse gas emissions. We have had an ISO 50001-certified energy management system in place since 2014, which forms the basis for implementing effective energy efficiency measures at AIXTRON.
From now on, we are taking climate protection one step further: In order to avoid impacting our climate as much as possible, AIXTRON has been sourcing its electricity entirely from renewable sources since 2019, thus making an important contribution to avoiding greenhouse gas emissions. As part of our company-wide climate efficiency strategy, we compensate for the remaining CO2 emissions caused by business travel, building heating, and commuting (Scope 1 and 2, as well as a portion of Scope 3 emissions), for example, through certified climate protection projects. AIXTRON thus achieves the status of a climate-neutral company.
We support two certified climate protection projects in Peru and Uganda to offset the CO2 emissions. The project in Peru is a forest protection project in the Amazon region "Madre de Dios", the project in Uganda is an energy efficiency project to improve the living situation and environmental conditions.
More details on AIXTRON's sustainability activities can be found in the reports below, which are published annually to complement the Annual Report. To complement this, below you will find the offset certificate from our partner First Climate and the amount of CO2 emissions voluntarily offset by AIXTRON resulting from its business activities that cannot be avoided.
