AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As engineer of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About the role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in Reactor design, you are at the heart of our reactor innovation. You will lead the development of complex mechanical architectures that define the performance and reliability of our systems.

Taking ownership of cross-functional challenges, you will drive critical system-level trade-offs and shape technical direction across disciplines. You ensure compliance, elevate performance, and embed lifecycle robustness from concept through production.

With strong systems thinking and a sharp engineering mindset, you anticipate risks across interfaces, navigate uncertainty with confidence, and guide high-impact technical decisions that move our technology forward.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize complex reactor mechanical architectures across multiple interfaces
  • Lead the mechanical integration of automation tools
  • Define and manage clear, testable requirements and system architecture decisions
  • Drive structured root cause analysis and risk assessments across disciplines
  • Interpret and lead structural simulation activities, including seismic and transport load cases
  • Application of tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, and component calculations under various operating conditions (e.g., thermal loads, pressure)
  • Lead design for manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives targeting key cost drivers
  • Drive complex product changes and configuration management across modules and releases
  • Lead technical work packages in prototype and upgrade projects
  • Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders and mentor junior engineers
  • Manage engineering documentation, product lifecycle management and enterprise resource planning data consistency
  • Technical management of new manufacturing suppliers from prototyping to series production.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 5–10 years of relevant experience
  • Deep expertise in mechanical architecture, vacuum and thermal systems, motion control and contamination control
  • Strong knowledge of ISO, CE and SEMI standards and regulatory compliance
  • Proficient in 3D Computer-Aided Design (e.g. Creo), Product Lifecycle Management and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
  • Advantage to be proficient in CREO/Pro-E and ERP systems such as SAP
  • Experience with structural simulation interpretation and engineering data analysis
  • Proven ability to lead technical decisions, manage risks and align cross-functional teams
  • High learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and complex environments
  • Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken)

Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
