AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As engineer of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About the role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in GMS Development, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of our deposition platforms. You will lead the design and development of complex mechanical and process-driven systems, turning advanced concepts into high-performance, production-ready solutions.

With ownership of system architecture, integration, and lifecycle management, you will set the technical direction and ensure excellence in performance, manufacturability, compliance, and cost efficiency. Your work will directly influence how our systems are built, scaled, and sustained worldwide.

Working across disciplines and interfaces, you will combine deep mechanical expertise with strong systems thinking and structured problem-solving. The result: robust, scalable solutions that elevate performance, enhance serviceability, and enable reliable global production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize complex mechanical architectures, vacuum systems, and gas handling systems
  • Develop robust tolerance concepts and datum strategies using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles (GD&T)
  • Select suitable materials based on environment, cost and manufacturability
  • Define subsystem requirements, architecture and interfaces; manage traceability and changes
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis, 8D and failure mode and effects analysis to mitigate risks
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, CE, SEMI and safety standards
  • Drive design for manufacturing and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Lead technical modules, mentor engineers and align cross-functional stakeholders
  • Manage engineering documentation, product lifecycle management and enterprise resource planning data consistency
  • Technical management of new manufacturing suppliers from prototyping to series production.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 5–10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong expertise in mechanical system design, tolerance management and material selection
  • Solid understanding of vacuum technology, gas mixing systems, pressure and process fundamentals
  • Experience in system architecture definition and requirements engineering
  • Proficient in 3D Computer-Aided Design (e.g. Creo), Product Lifecycle Management and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
  • Advantage to be proficient in CREO/Pro-E and ERP systems such as SAP
  • Proven track record in structured risk assessment and design optimization
  • Strong technical leadership, ownership mindset and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • High learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and complex environments
  • Fluent English

Working Conditions
