AIXTRON’s new manufacturing & engineering hub in Malaysia

We are building a new greenfield manufacturing and engineering hub in Batu Kawan, Penang. The site will provide a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment for assembly & testing of our high-end systems and will contribute to engineering for the next generation of products. Operations are planned to start in 2027 with a rapid ramp-up. Beyond technology, the new location is designed as a modern workplace with state-of-the art office and amenities —built to foster collaboration and a strong focus on people's wellbeing.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for purpose-driven builders: hands-on professionals with entrepreneurial spirit who enjoy setting up structures, improving processes and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment. As pioneers of our Malaysia site, you will help to shape not only your function, but also how we work together locally — while being connected to a global team of around 1,000 employees from ~60 nationalities across Asia, Europe and the US. We offer competitive benefits, outstanding technical expertise, development opportunities and training.

About the role

As a System Definition Engineer, you will define and shape system-level architectures for advanced semiconductor equipment. You translate complex requirements into robust, scalable and compliant system concepts, ensuring seamless integration across mechanical, thermal, electrical, automation and process domains.

You will act as a technical driver across interfaces, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability and risk while ensuring compliance with international standards and internal governance.

As a technical driver, you navigate competing priorities with confidence. You balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and risk while embedding compliance with international standards and internal governance from the very beginning.

Your work lays the foundation for innovation — turning complexity into clarity and ambition into robust, production-ready systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage system requirements across cross-functional interfaces
  • Develop and maintain system architecture, including mechanical, vacuum, thermal, exhaust, power distribution and automation concepts
  • Lead structured risk assessments (FMEA) and drive preventive design decisions
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods such as root cause analysis and 8D for complex technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, CE, SEMI and safety standards
  • Drive change and configuration management across modules and releases
  • Optimize designs for manufacturing and cost while maintaining performance and reliability
  • Establish high-quality technical documentation standards and mentor others
  • Collaborate closely with global engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field with
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in system engineering or complex equipment development
  • Strong expertise in system architecture definition and requirements engineering
  • Solid understanding of vacuum systems, thermal systems, mechanical design, materials and process fundamentals
  • Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and design for manufacturing
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD (for example Creo), Product Lifecycle Management and enterprise resource planning systems
  • Analytical mindset with strong data analysis capabilities
  • Proven ownership, technical leadership and ability to drive cross-functional alignment
  • Fluent English communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Role based at AIXTRON Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
  • Majority of work at the Batu Kawan site.
  • Occasional travel to Headquarters in Germany or other regional sites.
