World largest contract for
Triple Junction Solar Cells TECSTAR has been awarded the worlds largest contract for triple junction solar cell assemblies by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space (LMMS), Sunnyvale, CA. The assemblies will be used on Lockheeds A2100 satellite bus. TECSTAR will provide 161kW of solar cell power (more than 200.000 cells) to LMMS through December of 2000. The triple junction solar cells (4x6 cm2) were developed by TECSTAR in conjunction with NASA and the USAF and currently power the Deep Space 1, TRACE, and Mightysat 1 satellites. TECSTAR is producing cells with efficiency as high as 24.6 %, higher than any claimed production efficiency of its two nearest competitors. TECSTAR is "proud to be a strategic partner of
LMMS and signed the long term agreement to give them the highest efficiency solar cell
assemblies Today, TECSTAR offers solar power systems, electro-mechanical and electro-magnetic assemblies, high speed data transfer-systems, and world-class controls design and development to the space and avionics industries. TECSTAR hardware has flown successfully on more than 1,000 satellites. TECSTAR uses MOCVD equipment supplied by AIXTRON to manufacture the solar cell material. The Aachen-based company produces the world's largest machines for this application. With its patent-protected technology, the system AIX 3000 provides the lowest overall processing cost and highest throughput in the reactor industry (about two sq. ft. of compound semiconductor per load). AIXTRON equipment employs precursors -metal-organic compounds of the highest purity- up to between three and four times more economically. AIXTRON is the global market and technological leader in key technology for the production of compound semiconductors. For further information please contact:
