AIXTRON sells two Reactors to KTH-Electrum, Sweden

AIXTRON is pleased to announce the purchase by the renowned Swedish research institute, KTH-Electrum, of two AIXTRON systems - the AIX 200/4 and the AIX LP-VPE, for advanced research into optical applications.

"In selecting these systems reliability and layer uniformity were key decision factors. We looked at the various systems available on the market and came to the conclusion that for our work on VCSELs and laser, AIXTRON could provide us with the highest quality equipment and the best level of service and cooperation - we are most satisfied with our decision", commented Dr. Gunnar Landgren, Director of Laboratory at KTH-Electrum.

The AIX 200/4 MOCVD reactor system, developed for the production of highly uniform layered structures, has now been installed at KTH where it will be used for research into long wavelength applications, in particular lasers and VCSELs. Over the last few years an AIX 200 system has already provided high quality materials for VCSELs yielding world class results. Using the AIX 200, KTH, in cooperation with experts from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), has been able to perform the first 1.55um VCSEL operations at room temperature and under CV conditions. The AIX 200/4´s horizontal reactor permist the handling of 2", 3" or 4" wafers. The reactor has a unique laminar flow design without turbulence which allows for precise control of the material composition and guarantees ultra sharp interfaces. Wafer rotation is provided by the patented Gas Foil Rotation^®"

The second system purchased by KTH-Electrum, the AIX LP-VPE (for 1 x 2" wafers), will be installed by the end of the year. This system has been enhanced with special features based on KTH´s long experience in their specialised field of optoelectronics and will be used for the regrowth of InP-InGaAs for laser applications. The low pressure hydride VPE system is extremely efficient in throughput due to its design and growth principles.
