!!! Press Release !!! Australian National University
has purchased AIXTRON is pleased to announce that Prof. Jagadish from the Australian National University, Canberra, has recently purchased an AIX 200/4 MOCVD system. The AIXTRON reactor will mainly be used for research applications and the growth of Indium Phosphide based photonic devices for optical communication applications. Out of the worldwide proven AIX 200 series, Prof. Jagadish has chosen the AIX 200/4 model since it can be fitted with up to 3x2" substrates. This gives the opportunity to produce larger quantities to supply many of his collaborators. Within a co-operation agreement the Australian National University in Canberra will act as AIXTRON's demonstration laboratory in Australia. A further advantage is the fact that now customer training can be performed on site and the proximity of the laboratory will additionally reduce travel times for both Australian and Asian customers. AIXTRON is very proud to have concluded a contract with this University joining their efforts in research and development of VCSELs, in situ monitoring and InP-based laser structures on the AIX 200/4 system. The system is configured to grow both InP and GaAs based structures. Prof. Jagadish said: "We are excited about the new opportunities in both physics of nanostructures such as quantum wires and quantum dots and applications in semiconductor optoelectronic devices such as VCSELs, high power lasers, photo detectors and modulators". The AIXTRON reactor design is based on a tube reactor with pure laminar horizontal flow. This guarantees excellent wafer uniformity with very high efficiency in the use of process gases. Furthermore, the reactor is equipped with in situ monitoring for growth studies. AIXTRON offers a wide range of epitaxial systems for MOVPE, VPE and LPE from R&D-oriented systems up to large-scale Planetary Reactor® production systems for up to 25x4 inch or 9x6 inch wafers. The company has installed over 300 systems worldwide, provides an extensive service and support network for maintenance and upgrading and is represented in over 15 countries. Among AIXTRON's list of further industrial clients are names such as Alcatel, Conexant, EPI, Epistar, Epitronics, Epson, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, ITT, Kopin, Lucent, Motorola, NEC, Osram, Samsung, Showa Denko, UEC, Uniphase, VPEC and numerous Japanese corporations. AIXTRON systems have also been installed in many of the world's most renowned research institutes including JPL, Sandia Nat. Lab., Fraunhofer Institute, ITRI-OES, CNRS. AIXTRON is very active in advancing MOCVD technology through collaborations and joint R&D projects with major partners worldwide. For further information please contact:
