Blue semiconductor laser for DVD developed on AIXTRON system

For the first time ever, a blue semiconductor laser has been developed on a commercially available MOCVD system designed for production purposes. This breakthrough has been made using an AIXTRON system by engineers at the Northwestern University Evanston/Chicago who have just published their results in the highly respected MRS Journal. Prof. M. Razeghi´s research group has worked on the complex material technology for the production of nitride semiconductor materials for around 3 years. The group was supported on-site by AIXTRON´s US-American subsidiary in Chicago. The blue laser is vital to the development of the next generation of high performance DVD systems with high memory capacity. AIXTRON´s executive board regards this new success as an unexpectedly early demonstration of the level of advancement of the AIXTRON systems installed for this application. AIXTRON expects that the achievement of this milestone will encourage increased concentration on development work into the next generation of lasers.
