AIXTRON is pleased to announce that the Fraunhofer Institut für Angewandte Festkörperphysik (IAF), Freiburg, has ordered an AIX 2000G3 MOCVD Planetary Reactor® for the growth of GaN blue and green LED device structures. The IAF is one of the leading research institutes in the field of blue and green LEDs made from GaN/GaInN having achieved the best device results in Europe using an AIX 200/4RF-S reactor. Prof. Weimann, head of IAF commented: "The new Planetary Reactor® will now give us the opportunity to improve our research activities according to industrial needs." The IAF cooperates closely with industrial partners to develop processes for the mass production of blue and green LED. A cooperation between the IAF and AIXTRON has been agreed in order to concentrate research activities on this task. In order to continue the fast pace of progress in the field of Nitride-based III-V material applications, for both LEDs and Laser (for DVD), AIXTRON is collaborating with leading partners, universities, government R&D (e.g. Germany, Meijo University, Japan, University Ulm, Germany, Northwestern University, Evanston, USA, etc.), as well as commercial customers from industry. As a supplier to many fast-growing markets, AIXTRON’s list of industrial customers includes many of the world’s leading opto- and microelectronics concerns. In addition to HP, companies such as Alcatel, Conexant, EPI, Epitronics, Honeywell, IBM, ITT, Kopin, Lucent, Motorola, NEC, Nortel, Optopower, Osram, Samsung, Thomson and numerous Japanese corporations are among AIXTRON’s customer list. AIXTRON provides a wide range of epitaxial systems for MOVPE, VPE and LPE from R&D oriented systems up to large-scale production systems for up to 95x2 inch wafers. The AIX 3000 system, designed for high throughput of 95x2 inch wafers per run for the production of compound semiconductors for solar cells in satellite applications, is the world’s largest MOCVD production system. AIXTRON’s systems for GaN applications, the AIX 2000HT, AIX 200/4HT and AIX 200RF reactors, are highly successful around the world.
