As an example, Jacob Tarn of Epistar stated: "The AIXTRON Planetary Reactor® concept is exclusively used for our AlInGaP UHB-LED wafer manufacturing. The G3 reactor with its increased capacity and increased efficiency is mandatory for low cost production and it will maintain Epistar's technological leadership. The III-Nitride LED wafers at Epistar from AIXTRON Planetary Reactor® are producing industrial standard brightness with superior uniformity and best efficiencies."

LumiLeds is known to use AIXTRON reactors for their blue, green and white captive LED manufacturing in Mike Peanasky's group. Prof. Akasaki/Dr. Amano from Meijo University are using the AIXTRON technology for their well known GaN laser work. Showa Denko is involved with their AIXTRON reactors in the white light NEDO project. AXT just recently reported commercial availability of AlInGaN cyan and green LEDs. Morris Young from AXT states that customers have acknowledged the excellent quality from the AIXTRON reactors. Beyond that two more Taiwanese companies are in a pilot production mode for blue LEDs.

3" is ready:
Some of AIXTRON's customers are using the AIX 2400G3HT production type Planetary Reactor® also in the 5x3" configuration for the growth of green and blue GaN based LEDs obtaining improved productivity. The new reactor design allows an increase of wafer surface of 87% without additional costs. This improvement in semiconductor technology based on the multiwafer 3" Planetary Reactor® for III-V components targets cost reduction of two important, closely related and fast growing markets. Firstly, high brightness outdoor lighting as used in large outdoor displays, traffic signals, automobile lighting, etc., and secondly the market of high density optical disk storage as used in the multimedia environment.
