500th AIXTRON machine sold before the end of year 2000

AIXTRON is proud to announce the sale of its 500th multipurpose MOCVD system since the company's foundation in 1983. This anniversary machine goes to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Itami, Japan. It is a repeat order, for the AIX 2600G3, enabling the production of highest quality lasers in large quantities. This machine is also the industry standard in todays state-of-the-art 6" GaAs electronics fabs for HBTs and pHEMTs, due to the unrivalled throughput at low operating costs (Cost of Ownership).This machine established 6 inch MOCVD as the more cost efficient and flexible manufacturing technology compared to MBE. AIXTRON sold over 250 multiwafer production machines for compound semiconductors, of which about 190 machines were sold during the last two years.

The majority of epi for the 6" GaAs electronics business is produced by AIXTRON equipment,
with more than 30 multiwafer 6" production machines installed in the GaAs electronics business in the last two years. The main advantages of the AIXTRON systems compared to MBE or other equipment are:
