COBRA Inter-University Research Institute on Communication Technologies,
Eindhoven University of Technology installs proven AIX 200/4 GaInAsP MOCVD System
for advanced telecom laser applications

Aachen/Eindhoven, December 16th, 2002 - AIXTRON is pleased to announce that COBRA Inter-University Research Institute on Communication Technologies, Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) has contracted an AIX 200/4 for the development and production of epitaxial compound layer structures for which the main applications are GaInAsP and GaInAsN materials with an emission wavelength of 1.3 to 1.5 μm. These devices will be used for current and next generation broadband optical data transmission technologies. The system is located at the Eindhoven University of Technology.

In particular the AIX 200/4 will be used for active / passive monolithic device integration based on epitaxial re-growth as a key element for realization of compact photonic integrated circuits. Enhanced functionality within these photonic integrated circuits is aimed at, by the development of novel semiconductor nanostructure light emitting regions utilizing selective area growth and self-organizing processes in the epitaxy of the GaInAsP and GaInAsN material systems.

The AIX 200/4 with its capacity of 3x2" is used in numerous research sites worldwide for the fabrication of InP based lasers, detectors and other opto- electronic devices. It is the proven system for guaranteeing outstanding quality, efficiency and uptime.
