DEREK HOUGHTON APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF SALES & MARKETING
SILICON GERMANIUM TECHNOLOGY

AIXTRON is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Houghton to the position of Director Sales & Marketing, Silicon Technology. Derek Houghton assumes responsibility for all activities related to equipment and technology for SiGe, SiGeC, Strained Silicon and other materials integrated and deposited onto Silicon wafers. Derek brings over 20 years of experience in semiconductor process R&D and management to his new role at AIXTRON Inc.

He comments "I am excited about the new technology directions in Silicon-based CVD and Heteroepitaxy, currently pursued by AIXTRON. Derek brings an impressive track record to AIXTRON. Previously he founded SiGe Semiconductor where he held the position of President & CEO. He led a team of 15 scientists and engineers at Canada's National Research Council (NRC) for over a decade, developing SiGe IC device and process technology for RF applications, as well as Optoelectronic Technologies in Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride and Indium Phosphide for dense WDM communications. Furthermore, Derek helped establish a world-class engineering team at the Institute for Microstructural Sciences-NRC in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics. Based on these technology platforms, NRC has recently spun out several rapidly growing companies such as SiGe Semiconductor, SiGEM Inc, Trillium Inc. and Iridian Inc. He has also worked in senior R&D roles at British Telecom, Nortel Networks and Hitachi Ltd, Japan. With more than 200 scientific, technical publications and patents to his credit, he has taught at various Universities in US and Canada and serves on several international scientific committees as well participating on the boards of several local Ottawa region companies. He was recently elected Chairman of the Third International Conference on Si-based Epitaxy and Heterostructures, ICSI-3 to be held in Sante Fe, NM, March 9-12th, 2003.
