!!! Press Release !!! AIXTRON AGAIN SELECTED
FOR INCLUSION IN NEWEST EDITION OF DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEXES Good Corporate Governance
and creation of Shareholder Value as decisive criteria Aachen, September 20, 2002 - AIXTRON is pleased to announce that in the course of the regular annual review, AIXTRON has again been selected as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX). Key criteria in the decision making process were AIXTRON's good Corporate Governance and creation of Shareholder Value. The above mentioned indexes were jointly launched in 1999 by Dow Jones Indexes, STOXX Limited and SAM Group (Sustainability Asset Management). Effective as of September 23rd, 2002, the DJSI World will then include over 300 companies from over 23 countries and the Pan-European Benchmark DJSI STOXX will include more than 180 companies from 14 countries. The latter contains 28 of Germany's top firms, most of which are listed in the DAX with only one representation from the 'Nemax 50' - AIXTRON. Paul Hyland, AIXTRON's President and CEO comments: "We are very pleased that our continual efforts to ensure a high quality Corporate Governance and Shareholder Value have been recognized and rewarded in such a valuable way. Since AIXTRON's foundation in 1983 we have promoted a corporate philosophy of maximum transparency and we continue to undertake and support measures for the benefit of our stakeholders, of which social and environmental issues are an integral part. One further outcome of this strategy is that we recently became the first German Stock Exchange Company to publish our commitment to Corporate Governance based on the German Government Commission's'code." According to SAM Indexes the annual review will influence the decision making process of 40 asset managers worldwide. As of August 31st, 2002, assets managed in portfolios on the basis of DJSI were close to 2 billion EURO. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are fully integrated into the Dow Jones Global Indexes and the Dow Jones STOXX indexes, representing therefore, a valuable financial benchmark. According to SAM Indexes corporate sustainability is a business approach to create long-term shareholder value by embracing opportunities and managing risks deriving from economic, environmental and social developments. Sustainability driven companies create long term shareholder value by gearing their strategies and management to harness the market's potential for sustainability products while at the same time avoiding or reducing sustainability costs and risks. The annual selection process and methodology of SAM Indexes are regularly verified by the independent auditor PriceWaterhouse Coopers. For further information please contact:
